SELINA BÖPPLE

Pioneering work in assembly

Selina Böpple’s journey began in 2015 when she obtained her secondary school leaving certificate from the vocational school for electrical engineering in Offenburg. From that moment on, she knew she wanted to work for MEIKO. Discover how she carved out a path with us – and learn more about the pivotal role she plays today.

BREAKING FREE FROM ROUTINE

Selina shudders at the thought of doing the same thing every day. Thankfully, her role at MEIKO has been anything but monotonous since she joined in 2017. As the coordinator for assembly work preparation, she ensures seamless workflows in M-iQ conveyor technology and surface finishing. "This job is a mental challenge every single day. You're constantly learning new things," says the now 25-year-old.

WHAT KEEPS YOUR JOB EXCITING?

Selina: “It provides constant challenges, which push me to grow. Although there are some routines in my role, no two weeks are ever truly alike. I interact with various production departments and serve as one of many key interfaces. Sometimes, all it takes is one phone call to kickstart a whirlwind of activity for the day!"

WHAT LED YOU TO JOIN MEIKO?

Selina: “I first got to know MEIKO on a school work placement, and the company left a really positive impression on me. After completing my secondary school diploma and an additional qualification at the vocational school for electrical engineering, I decided I wanted to work for MEIKO. I began my mechatronics apprenticeship at the company in September 2017 and then moved into quality assurance before ending up in assembly work preparation.”

TELL US ABOUT YOUR MOST MEMORABLE PROJECT AT MEIKO.

Selina: “That would definitely be the final project on my mechatronics apprenticeship! I developed a temperature sensor test bench that provided an efficient and cost-effective way to test resistance temperature sensors for our machines in batches of 25 or 50 units. Previously, only two units could be tested simultaneously, and each test cycle took at least five minutes. The test bench concept I designed and implemented from start to finish is still used in many projects today – that's something I'm very proud of.”

100 PERCENT COMMITTED TO MEIKO

MEIKO is definitely not just your average employer. I feel truly valued and supported here. That’s why I’m passionate about contributing my ideas and energy to help drive the company forward.

WHAT MAKES MEIKO SO SPECIAL?

Selina: In a nutshell: it values its employees as individuals – and that appreciation extends far beyond the salary you earn. Mistakes are dealt with openly and honestly, and our managers see themselves as coaches whose job it is to support us and help us grow."

HOW DO YOU UNWIND FROM WORK?

Selina: "Twice a week, I practice karate, and I also run a kids' karate class in Appenweier. Right now I'm training to be a technician, so my time outside work is already pretty full. I also grow my own seasonal fruits and vegetables. After work, I often head straight from the shop floor to the fields. It's the perfect work-life balance, plus I save money by growing my own produce instead of buying overpriced food at the supermarket."

CULTIVATING HEALTHY HABITS ...

For Selina, the end of one shift marks the start of another. Straight after work, she heads down to her own fields and garden where she grows everything she needs to prepare her meals, including potatoes, plums and tomatoes. There's lots to do, and not just at harvest time: even in winter, tree branches and berry shrubs need pruning and preparation. Her neighbour’s dog, Duffy, often joins her in the great outdoors, making the most of the hilly terrain to roam far and wide.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO POTENTIAL APPLICANTS?

Selina: "Just be authentic and honest. Clearly state your positive attributes and your expectations of MEIKO as an employer in your interview. That approach worked really well for me, because MEIKO is keen to find people who are happy to put their cards on the table and set clear goals."
